Yes, but they are transcended through faith. Not so in
noir.
And I cannot think of any noir stories where characters are
punished for their immorality. They may come to a bad end,
living in and perhaps participating in a violent, corrupt
world, but the heavens do not open, lightening does not
strike them down. But I haven't read everything. Perhaps you
could enlighten me?
