...and yet, so many great Noir figures in the bible - Judas Iscariot, Job, Samson & Delilah, Satan (although I'm probably thinking of Milton's Satan, and his Samson, come to think of it...)

  In 'Brighton Rock,' (really a must-read for Noir fans), Graham Greene's unsettling portrayal of teenage gangster Pinkie 'the Boy' Brown confronts the reader with this disturbing paradox: the most devout believer of all must be Satan himself.
