I'm interpreting that Spillane double arrow as some writers (and critics) interpretation of Spillane, like A.I. Bezzerides' screenplay for Kiss Me, Deadly, David Karp's novel Hardman, and in a more positive light, because psychotics aren't all bad, Earle Basinsky's
"Death Is a Cold, Keen Edge".

Yes, Juri, you are right about two categories "Rise of the paperback" and "Crime novels/thrillers". I guess the difference is the medium and not the message.
