Re: RARA-AVIS: Drivers

My first reading of the first ten pages of Two Trains Running left a sour taste, so I re-read them last night and the only word I can think of is "surenchre" which is French for something like "overbearing" &
"overwraught" combined...This constant deluge of characters' descriptions as more tough, more vicious, more menacing, more beat up, more, more, more...it's like a parody...or like recent films such as Sin City, Matrix...(and the connection between vachss and comics is of course relevant as somebody else pointed out)...maybe your statement is highly appropriate: one book too many...I'll push with Two Trains...but I don't know how long I'll go facing more lantern jawed, bull necked, iron-colored eyes...men anymore...without laughing...Reading this after Durrenmatt is quite an experience!...
