I cannot help you for the questions about the 4 "strange" novels, but I was struck by the fact that, in the specialist websites dedicated to Chase, nobody seems to mention his 90th novel. OK, it's maybe daring to pretend there was one more, but technically Chase had a nb 90, when he redid "No Orchids for Mrs Blandish" in 1961. The alibi was that he wanted to modernize the setting of his first novel published in 1939. But it was rewritten and partly "softened" for this reissue in 1961.
