RARA-AVIS: Finding the murderer

Vicki asked (sorry, I'm late on this):

"Why does everyone always want to guess who the murderer is? I've never understood the fun in that. Do people read only to see if they can be right and pat themselves on the back?"

Well, I read Christie when I was 13 or so and wanted to guess the murderer, but have given up that since. I couldn't even tell who the murderer is in most of the books I've read. Chandler? Geez. I could name only Terry Lennox.
