I didn't suspect him at first but gradually as I went along.
The possibility suggested itself relatively early, but I
think I recall a sense of shock at the end at the degree of
Danser's venality. No surprise by then, however.
I find, having done some of my own writing and discussing
writing in this and other forums that I'm watching the
writers as much as the characters in the books I read. Not
what will the protagonist do and how much does she/he know,
but what will the writer do to maintain interest now and what
is she/he holding back. Similar, but not identical
things.
Who knows but one day I may actually learn to make use of
such information.
