Hi Rob,
As to the supernatural... I think Mark's summation of the
Noir Manifesto's view of the Dupin stories is closest to what
I had in mind. It may be that he says it clearer than I
did.
(Not saying that I necessarily agree with his view on The
Confession, of course.)
