I'm reading Domenic's MANIFESTO FOR THE DEAD (I have a couple
of questions about it I'll save until I'm done) which
features Jim Thompson as the main character. It reminded me
of Joe Gores' HAMMETT, which is about Dashiell Hammett. And
coincidentally, the 1982 movie version (which Ross Thomas
helped write) is now out on DVD for Region 1. When I first
saw it in 1984, I was enthralled. I saw it later, and didn't
like it so much. I'll watch it again and see what I think
now.
