I don't know if this has been mentioned on the list before,
but I wanted to recommend a podcast devoted to Film Noir.
Each half-hour program looks at a different film and
discusses the techniques used by the filmakers and the
influences on the genre. It's a very interesting presentation
and emphasises how the genre draws on hardboiled detective
novels among other sources.
While they've covered many of the classics in the 10 episodes
to date, their most recent one (which I've not heard yet)
looks to be an entertaining deviation. They're comparing The
Big Sleep with The Big Lebowski. Should be fun as well as
illuminating!
The podcast is called "Out of the Past" and more information
can be found at http://www.digitalpodcast.com/detail.php?id=2163
You can also subscribe to it through the podcast link in
iTunes.
