*********** I think that ranking him with Willeford is right on target. In both writers, their understanding of the human condition does more than entertain. It illuminates. There are other damned good writers who don't seem to quite have a grasp on reality. Rather than clarify, their personal feelings muddy the waters. Their work can be still be superb in poetry and mood.
