Personally dissapointed not to see Flannery O'Connor's Wise
Blood on the list.
*********** A fine book. I've read some of her short stories
but that's the only novel. I'd like to remedy that here soon.
There are a lot of books on the list that have been mentioned
in Rara-avis. From memory, a few besides the McCarthy and
Hammett ones that Dave mentions are O'Hara's APPOINTMENT IN
SAMARRA, Greene's THE POWER AND THE GLORY, Heller's CATCH-22,
and Didion's PLAY IT AS IT LAYS. Most of those are fairly
decent, but CATCH-22 was superb.
