Snow crash has a flotilla centered around a privately owned
nuclear aircraft carrier. (Purchased after the dissolution of
the US military). Many many other ships have lashed
themselves to it in a haphazard way.
Diamond Age does not have a similar flotilla, although now
that you mention it there is a lot of reference to water.
This may be a theme for stephenson.
