Re: RARA-AVIS: Movie of Dark Ride?

It went off the wheels, as things so often do in that business. The director left the project. But I'm still hopeful. (Hope is the last to die the Mexicans say.) The script is much different than the book. I like the script-- it's mine-- better in fact than the book! It's less hide bound. (No pun intended.)
For some reason Eve takes over in the movie and becomes a kind of avenging Shiva. I wanted to turn the "Femme Fatale" into something else, something more interesting to me now. There is a arch to that character in the script that I think is really fresh. I hope people get to see it someday. I wanted to pick up where "Chinatown" ends. My movie is hopeful at the end.
There is a line in the my script, near the very end, I love. Jimmy turns to the audience and says "You can't believe all the bull@#$% people believe these days." If I was directing, I'd take it very very close. Big face looking right at us as he speaks.
