I couldn't fall asleep last night so I picked up Allan
Guthrie's Two-Way Split. I bought this book a while back, but
I've moved and otherwise turned my life upside down a couple
of times since then and only found it again last week.
Early on, it met with my approval by
using "goose pimples" rather than
"goose bumps" or "gooseflesh." So I kept reading. This is not
a restful book to drift off with. So at 2:45 I finished p.
183, and

that was the last page. So did he live or die, Allan? Going
by the actual words on the page--or rather the lack of actual
words on the page, in that he doesn't respond to the "speak
to me" command--I take it he died. But I'm an eternal
optimist, holding out hope.
