I am just finishing Dexter's *Deadwood* now, and while many
of the same characters are common to the novel and the TV
series (they're historical figures), there is only a
superficial resemblance between the two.
That said, however, I have seen things in the series that
seem to have been inspired by incidents in the novel, so
*somebody* has read it.
