Does anyone know if Elmore Leonard's novel MR MAJESTYK was
written before or after Leonard wrote the screenplay for the
film (which, like the novel, appeared in 1974)? The film's
credits simply attribute the screenplay to Elmore Leonard,
without any mention of it being adapted from a novel. Since
Leonard has mentioned writing the film for Clint Eastwood
prior to HIGH PLAINS DRIFTER (which was made in 1972), I
suspect this is an original screenplay that Leonard novelized
(perhaps specifically for the film tie-in edition).
