Well, I thank the Committee, it's a nice honor, especially
being first. Do I get a gold key, or maybe a Black
Bird?
Seriously, I am truly surprised and honored and intend to
remain and lurk. It's been fun and I find it both cathartic
and useful to reexamine my thoughts and positions from time
to time, as well as to assess my own history. Memory is a
terribly tricky matter, and everyone should take stock every
now and then to try to get it straight. Especially for a
writer who is constantly fictionalizing his or her own
life.
