Steve, I still have the gift bottle of wine from Frontignan with a label made especially for the Noir Fest. I don't want to drink it though! The South is certainly a beautiful place and I like the food better than in Paris overall. A woman who had an apartment in Montpellier let me stay there for a few days so I took a train to some nearby cities and walked around. She also drove me to the beach and to an abbey, and we passed hundreds of flamingoes that nobody else paid any attention to because they're so common. The weather was gorgeous for the entire week. I wasn't aware that Francois had owned a bookstore. He is extremely nice, and much more open than American editors/publishers that I have had. I was right next to him at the table at the bookfair so I talked to him at length. How were the reviews, by the way? I don't mind if it's bad news and goes out on these e-mails. I never hear anything otherwise. Vicki
