RARA-AVIS: J. Robert Janes: WWII Occupied France Mystery

Has anyone else come across the novels about a detecting duo of one German Gestapo agent (Hermann Kohler), and one French Sureté ¯fficer
(Jean-Louis St Cyr) by J. Robert Janes? I have re-read the fourth book "Salamander" in this Canadian author's series set in occupied France. The plot is excellent. Janes has the ability to transport the reader to the penetrating cold of a winter without fuel, a Christmas without feasting, and into the minds of people trying to survive. His descriptions are so vivid that the reader feels the cold, the hunger, and the dark. Although the author's style of preceding a character's dialogue with their interior thoughts makes the reading hard, I find the book worth reading.
