On 6 March 2005, Greg Harness wrote about Dave Brandstetter:

: He is a brooding character, who keeps digging for the truth long after
: everyone wishes he would stop. In that way, he reminds me somewhat of
: Lew Archer, both in his insistence and tenacity, and in the darkness and
: despair he finds in the lives of the people he meets in the course of
: his investigations.

Thanks for the link--that's a nice write-up about Hansen. I picked up TROUBLEMAKER (1975) and read it last week, but I didn't like it as much as you. Perhaps it was partly because I was coming off some kind of flu bug, but it never really grabbed me and I ended up just skimming to the end. I did like the style, and Brandstetter, but the mystery didn't catch my interest. I'm glad I finally got around to reading something by Hansen, though, and placing him in the post-Ross Macdonald arrangement of detectives.
