The Connelly and Ellroy point comes up here once in a while. We are talking about less than 30 days difference between publication dates, and only after those two authors were well established in the US. Personally, I found it very annoying to order books from the UK to attend a local (Toronto) reading/signing. In any case, I think this has more to do with internal publishing politics than whether the UK is more likely than the US to discover an american author.
