Miker, thanks for your suggestion. Since we don't know each
other that's as good a guess as any, but I don't think
"flinching" is the reason. I usually skim those scenes
anyway.
Brian, thanks for your comments on Rankin maintaining the
momentum of a series better than the others. That's reason
enough to give him another try. I did enjoy a collection of
Rebus short stories a couple years back.
