Keller IS a series. The first book was a collection of short stories. The links that made it possible for the autonomous stories to appear to be chapters in an episodic novel were, at least at first, unconscious on Block's part (at least according to Block).

Series characters don't appear exclusively in novels. Moreover, I'd say a sequel makes a series. If there are no other entries, it's a SHORT series, but it's still as series.
