Just finished the fourth by James Swain, called Loaded Dice.
Hero Tony Valentine is an expert in gambling and cheating.
He's a good guy, an ex-cop who in his retirement acts as a
consultant to casinos that think they are being ripped off.
He figures out scams amazingly quickly a lot of the
time.
It's a good idea to read these in order (though I've missed
one). The characters' relationships through the books.
Valentine's ne'er-do-well son, Gerry, gets into worse trouble
all the time. I don't think it could get much worse than in
this book, which involves a "Middle Eastern" terrorist. Tony
proves himself a real hero as he makes a heart-wrenching
decision.
A good read. Not noir.
