After reading several Ross Thomas novels, I'm spoiled. I
picked up a thriller that had been recommended, and looked
better than the usual kind of thriller these days, but it's
no comparison. It's overwritten; I keep being told how I
should feel about someone without being given any reason;
it's taking forever to get going; and most conversations,
especially the threatening or flirting kind, sound flat and
contrived. There are some situations and people that are
similar to ones in the Thomas novels I've read and the poorer
writing is glaring.
I have high expectations for Joseph Hansen in March!
