Robert Wheaton wrote of BLOOD MERIDIAN:
I picked this up on vacation in San Francisco and read it
while driving around the state. What a magnificent book. I've
read some of the source material too, and am just as
impressed by McCarthy's research as I am by his prose. What
an astounding book. I wish I could find something else like
it.
************ I knew that it was based on a true event, but I
haven't read a lot of the details of it. After reading BLOOD
MERIDIAN was the last time I immediately went out and bought
every other book the author wrote.
I'm slowly doling out a book at a time. CHILD OF GOD
isn't nearly as spectacular as BLOOD MERIDIAN. They both deal
with the relationship between man and violence, but CHILD OF
GOD is on a more personal basis. In theme and locale CHILD OF
GOD qualifies as Southern gothic. SUTTREE, another Southern
gothic, is going down to Key West with me as a commemoration
of my first intro to McCarthy. I'm looking forward to it.
After that I've still got the Texas trilogy.
