Thinking about this a little longer, probably the toughest
guy in crime fiction was Frank Mansfield, title character of
Willeford's Cockfighter.
Also, moving away from specific characters, which writers
wrote the toughest? These are my choices, writers who writing
just exuded toughness:
1) Dashiell Hammett 2) Charles Willeford 3) Dan Marlowe 4)
Paul Cain 5) Mickey Spillane
