Very hardboiled, Miker. Excellent book but grim is the word.
Reminded me for some reason, at least at the beginning, of a
book by George Gissing I had to read in college. Hopeless
people in a horrible environment. Still it kept me reading
and I was very impressed. Excellent translation too, at least
it was very readable.
