It was an interesting discussion, and I thank Mr. Schooley and Ms. Lavagette particularly for their lengthy comments. We gave Macdonald a good going over, and if he got bruised he's also well respected. I agree with Mr. Bludis that he doesn't belong in the Big Three, but I won't avoid him any more, either. I'll go back to him in small controlled doses, but I'll never binge like the one summer when I read all his books in a row. That is definitely not the way to read Ross Macdonald.
