I'm rereading a bunch of Edward S. Aarons's ASSIGNMENT series, with an eye toward doing a Mystery File article on them in the spring of next year. I've flogged that hobby horse to death; but this is my big chance to make my case. :)

I've recently been reading a lot of Cornell Woolrich: right now THE TEN FACES OF CORNELL WOOLRICH and the recent Modern Library reissue of RENDEZVOUS IN BLACK. Eventually I'll probably have something to say about him -- he's an author I've wrestled with for a long time.

I've picked up, but haven't delved into, the Hard Case Crime reissue of Max Allan Collins's BAIT MONEY and BLOOD MONEY. That looks to be an absolutely fantastic line; when I get a chance I'll be picking up more from them. (Reminiscent of the Ace Specials in SF.)
