If I remember correctly, Killain was no private eye. He was
more like a trouble maker or shooter or something like that.
I've "Shake a Crooked Town" (1961?) and it was at least
mediocre - but it was a bad translation, so I'd have to give
it another try. It was Spillane rather than Chandler, but I'd
say it was meant to be Hammett.
