Maybe I should reread it. My impression may have been caused by the fact that I read it right after the preceding titles, which are extremely Chandlerish.

I remember that, and I might even still have that issue somewhere! IIRC, also Jonathan Latimer and Paul Cain were mentioned, so obviously it was written by someone who knew his business.
