I just finished watching "Miller's Crossing" for the second
time. It's a good show, but you have to pay attention because
if you miss any dialogue, you'll be lost. The first time I
watched it I thought that there was so much of Red Harvest
and The Glass Key in it that I was surprised the Coens
weren't sued; after the second viewing, I can see the
similarities, but the Coens tweaked them enough to make the
story their own. I think it's the best modern example of a
"Black Mask-style" movie, quite frankly, and probably the
only "real" adaptation we'll see of either of the Hammett
novels.
