RARA-AVIS: Toronto fiction (and bookstores)

Hi all,

I just moved to Toronto, and would like to read around the city a bit - preferably via a stack of local crime fiction.

So - in the spirit of the upcoming Bouchercon - could anyone please recommend some of Toronto's crime fiction? It would be nice if we could come up with a nice little reading list. Despite it's size, T.O. doesn't seem to have a body of hardboiled or noir writing comparable to even medium-sized American cities... or am a wrong?

I'm eyeing Bouchercon, though the ticket price may be slightly above my current budget. In the interests of money-saving (and rarities-finding), what are the best bookstores here in town? I've stumbled across a couple of stores in the BMV chain, which seem reliably cheap secondhand/remainder stores. But are there any specialist crime stores?

Thanks, as ever, for any help and advice! I think I'm going to like it here.

Cheers,

Rob
