There is more to add... The seventies saw very fine work by four of the greatest masters the genre has produced: Joe Gores, Elmore Leonard, Ross Thomas and Lawrence Block (in random order). Also Arthur Lyons and Stephen Greenleaf, who are central writers in the PI subgenre. And there are several more... I wouldn't say the seventies was the lost decade. It depends on what you like to read, but the books are there...
