Re: RARA-AVIS: Recent readings

Recent reads that relate here:

Gerald Kersh's PRELUDE TO A CERTAIN MIDNIGHT (I think Kersh's two crime novels are generally overrated, this is good in spurts but has a kind of dreary preachiness to it that I didn't like)

Joe Gores's INTERFACE (Good, not great, though certainly Gores's best book.)

Edward Anderson's THIEVES LIKE US (Awesome, deserves all the plaudits thrown at it. Now if somebody would only republish NIGHTMARE ALLEY as a standalone.)

George Pelecanos's DOWN BY THE RIVER WHERE THE DEAD MEN GO (Okay, felt a bit rushed to me in sections).

Donald Hamilton's THE POISONERS (The Helm books are all pretty decent, this isn't top notch but up there. Pick up any Helm book you see, especially if it's a first -- I've seen crappy first editions of later books in the series going for over twelve bucks. )
