Etienne is right, this is a well-written,
"traditional" sort of noir novel. I read this several years
ago but had forgotten the title -- I've been scratching my
heads for weeks trying to recall it to recommend to the list
for this theme of the month.
The dog-fighting world is interestingly described. As I
recall from the blurb, Ring is or was a newspaper
writer.
I haven't seen any other books by him, but Amazon says he had
another, PEREGRINE DREAM.
