RARA-AVIS: More thanks to Mr. Sallis

I, too, would like to thank you, Mr. Sallis, for all the great insights into the genre, for the heads-up on several authors that I was unfamiliar with, and most of all for the great books you've written. I learned a lot about Goodis, Thompson, and Himes from your DIFFICULT LIVES, and I can't think of anything I've ever read that hit as hard as the first few pages of LONG-LEGGED FLY.

I do have another question for you. I'd like to know why you chose a black protagonist for your Lew Griffin series. My guess would be that Himes's influence was a strong determinant.

Thanks again, miker
