RARA-AVIS: Beattie reviews Leonard

Today's NYT book review has a nice piece by Ann Beattie
(local writer and teacher here in VA, well known for her New Yorker stories) on Leonard's latest. This is a rave review and its tone and content let on, to my malicious ears, a certain pent-up desire to write about low-lifers like Leonard's instead of the dull middle-class and yuppie types that are usual in her stories).

Good for Leonard, good for us. And the genre thing is going away, at least in publications like the NYTBR and the NYRB
(which also regularly reviews Leonard and other crime writers).

Best,

MrT
