Geir, are there really no distinctions made between genre fiction and literary fiction in Europe? For instance, are Peter Handke and Henning Mankel seen as equally worthy of serious literary analysis? I'm not saying they aren't both great writers, but from a US perspective I find it very odd that no difference is seen between the two of them, even if not qualitatively. Are they not even separated in book stores? I know England has mystery specialty stores, so there is some sort of distinction drawn.
