I tried to send this the other day but it didn't go through.
I'll give it another shot...
-------
I just finished a new collection of Robert Leslie Bellem's
Dan Turner stories called ROSCOES IN THE NIGHT. I have to
admit, it was a lot of fun. Also, very interesting to see how
Dan progressed. The stories are arranged chronologically, so
you can see how they started out as pretty standard
"racy pulp" material. Within a few years, Dan had developed
that unique vocabulary, where "glims" are eyes, "geetus" is
cash, people "ankle" instead of walk, etc.
The editor is John Wooley, who apparently also edited another
Turner anthology 20 years ago. He also wrote the Dan Turner
movie, and his introduction has lots of interesting
information. And the book itself is beautiful. If anyone
wants a list of the stories, contact me offlist.
