miker, I never taught at a distinguished academic
institution, so nobody cared what I wrote. (As a side note,
the president of the community college where I spent the last
19 years of my career is a big SF and hardboiled fan, and a
long-time Burroughs collector.) The only academic I ever
heard mention this topic was Robert B. Parker, and he said
that the faculty where he taught either pretty much ignored
what he wrote. If they mentioned it at all, it was in a
disparaging way.
