The tone may be a bit off for HB, but only a bit, as this
involves a "true men's adventure" writer (as AD himself was,
some of the time) who stumbles into a conspiracy of history
to protect the Earth from a remarkable alien menace. A
synopsis which doesn't begin to do justice to this wonderful
novel.
Barry Malzberg's HEROVIT'S WORLD might likewise be worth
consideration here...and his UNDERLAY...
