Interesting, but frankly Kera Bolonik cannot be serious if she/he believes that Highsmith got better and better in her last years. Ripley Under Water is a truly terrible book - reverting to a series character in the forlorn hope that it might start the creative juices flowing - and Gary Fisketjon was clearly trying to be kind when he suggested that Small G might work as a YA title. The sad truth seems to me that Highsmith was terribly blocked in her introverted last years.
