M Blumenthal Is that why he is named Jack Wild as opposed to Wildly? Actually Garden of Sand and its two sequels seem to be pretty autobigraphical. It's a shame Thompson died so young. If he could have kept the energy from his first book while perfecting his technique he might have produced something even better.

*************** Near as I can tell, I've got one more of his books to read. Sad to come to the end of his output. I'll try and hold off on it for a year or so. I'm also starting to run out of Willeford, too, even though I've got a long ways to go. I had my fingers on THE DIFFERENCE this afternoon but put it back and decided to dig into the Westerns you all recommended to me. I started Gorman's WOLF MOON.
