Lehane mentioned in his FRESH AIR interview that after one
attempt to adapt one of his earlier novels for filming, he
never wanted to do that again, comparing the experience to
producing a READER'S DIGEST "condensation" of his original

I viewed the movie, MYSTIC RIVER, and came away very
impressed. Good acting and suitable number of red herrings. I
noticed from the credits at the end that Dennis Lehane didn't
do the screenplay. The critics got this one right. It's a
keeper.
