RARA-AVIS: Breece Pancake: Taboada after Moore

I don't know the circumstances of his life, but as one whose family springs on one side from those coal-mine-riddled hills, the self-destructive tendency is not exactly uncommon. (Nor in the granite-quarry-riddled hills of Vermont the other side springs from. Human condition plus just so much bleakness alternating with stark beauty, perhaps.)

TM (that's always a fun kind of letter to receive from another writer, that note from KV, Rich!)

-----Original Message----- From: Mario Taboada [mailto: matrxtech@yahoo.com] Oates and Kurt V. are right. Pancake had a fabulous storytelling gift. His stories sound lived, too. Dead at the ridiculous age of 26... He could have been the male Flannery O'Connor.
