I love Marvin, b'lieve me, but it's Gloria Grahame who keeps me watching that film.
And did you ever notice how the writing perks up whenever Grahame walks onscreen? ("Early 'Nothing!' ", and all that.) Well, according to a bio of GG that I was skimming a while back, this was due to uncredited insertions by Grahame's then-husband, writer Cy Howard. Howard, at that time, worked mostly as a writer for comedy, having established himself with the "My Friend Irma" radio-show and movies ...
"Facts," as established by adulatory biographies, can be slippery things. This one, though, sounds credible to me. Especially since credited scrrenwriter Boehm wasn't noted for his ability to produce epigrammatic dialogue.
