I am almost sure that both Jack Ritchie and Robert Colby
(those two masters of the tough, colorful short story) have used the Spanish Prisoner scam in their fiction. In fact, Colby seems to know a lot about scams (or an imagination to come up with ingenious ones). Did he ever work as a reporter? That's what I see in his writing style and themes.

It's unfortunate that the Internet has given these sleazeballs so much slack to hide, harass and defraud. They prey on old people, too.
